blog check
Today we reviewed our blogs. We looked at what we have been blogging about, what type of posts we have been creating and how many posts we have done this year. I found that I am not doing 2 posts a week like I should be so I am going to do more blogging. I also do more literacy posts than anything else so I am going to share more of my maths learning. I usually do photos and writing to share my learning so I am going to be more creative by doing different sorts of posts each week.

Hanmer Vocabulary
WALT: Understand and explain scientific language related to Thermal Pools.
WALT: Understand and explain scientific language related to Thermal Pools
Kia ora! In the last two weeks we have been working on Hanmer Spring's because we went on camp there. For this activity we had to pick a word, define it and write how it relates to Hanmer. I picked this word because I was interested in finding out what the earth's core could possibly have to do with Hanmer.

Financial Literacy
Last week we started a program called financial literacy. We started by making our life in 30 years time. We got to pick if we were married or not, how many children we had, cars, and pets. Then we got an income card which told us how much we earn each week. We had to work out our tax and our mortgage. We then got a budget sheet. Each week we had to put in our income, take out our tax, pay for groceries and we got a fortune card which could make us pay another bill or give us money. We did this for four weeks and then we got our monthly bills which were things like insurance, power and internet bill. We then had to add up our total at the end of the month. If we had money left over we got to add it to our savings account which has $2000 in it. If we were in debt we had to take it out of our savings account to get to a $0 balance. I luckily had money left but most people didn't.
I liked that I didn't go bankrupt and I learnt how real life works.

Road Safety
This week on Monday we went to a program about road safety. The lessons were inside the trailer of a huge truck. We sat in the cab and beeped the horn. Inside we watched a TV clip. In the clip we learnt what to do keep safe around trucks when we are on or near the road.
The important points were:
Wait for big trucks to come to a complete stop before going across a crossing.
Trucks have blind spots so try not go down where they can't see you.
Trucks need lots of space to turn so wait for them to turn before you do.
